I work in two disciplines as an artist and illustrator. I try to alternate between the two though they often merge and compliment each other.
My art is inspired by light and the beauty in nature. I paint places or people I have felt inspired by in some significant way, I am heavily influenced by my surroundings and draw on my emotions and memory when creating.
I was initially taught to oil paint at a young age by my artist mother, she introduced me to art galleries and studios and agreed for me to attend life drawing classes in my teens. I was encouraged to follow my heart and keep my art true to myself, so I was persuaded not to go to art school and consider myself predominantly a self-taught artist.
I have a BA in Fashion Design from RMIT and I furthered my training at NIDA studying Set and Costume Design for theatre and film.
During the time I was working in the theatre industry I maintained my own painting studio and continued my art practice.
I have always loved storytelling – researching and inventing characters and their world, which has lead me from the world of theatre into illustrating and creating children’s picture books- the world of publishing.
Recent illustration clients have been: Wombat Books, Cengage Learning, University of Queensland Press, Pan Macmillan Australia and Copeland Publishing.
